God's Soveriegnty

This week we touched on the idea of God being sovereign, meaning He has complete and total control over everything. We looked at 3 examples of God being sovereign and exercising His control in order to work out His greater plan.

The final example that we looked at was taken from Exodus 9:12 and God hardening the heart of Pharaoh in order to work His greater plan of getting Israel out of Egypt.

Was it fair of God to harden Pharaoh's heart?

Try and explain your answer as best you can because I think we can have a really good discussion about this!

I think it was necessary, not only for Moses' faith to grow, but also for the Isrealites. They would need great faith to be able to trust in God in the Wilderness. On the other hand, Pharoah's hardened heart caused much pain for the Egyptians ,he even lost his life!

I think that God was testing Moses and the Israelites' faith. The Pharoh's heart was hardened, so therefore God sent many plagues, but he ususally made the plagues easier on the Israelites. Yes, Pharoh made it more difficult, but it was a trial of faith, and in the end he wound up losing his son, so he was the one that suffered, and the Israelites were free!

I think it was necessary because if Pharaoh just let them go free with no obligation.. what would the Israelites learn?
